This may notify clinicians as a pop-up in the electronic health record, a flag next to the patient on a ward list or a message/bleep to a mobile phone or bleeper. | |
Answer To Question 4: Sepsis screening is linked to the NEWS2 score which is recorded electronically. The practitioner is prompted to consider sepsis if patients scores 5 and above or a single parameter 3. On the doctors screen the prompt appears again to remind them to commence the paper pathway | |

Answer To Question 5: All ward areas including Emergency Department and Acute Medical Unit. Paediatric and Maternity Unit are excluded. | |

NB: [1] Algorithm – this may be NEWS2 or Red Flag Sepsis; an algorithm provided by the EHR provider, such as the St John Sepsis Algorithm provided by Cerner; or a bespoke algorithm designed in house. [2] Information on thresholds would include the level at which the clinical observation contributes to the alert, such as a lactate value of 2.0mmol/litre. | |
