Medical physics is the application of physics methods to medicine. Across the hospital several departments and staff use ionising and non-ionising radiation as part of their patient care. The Medical Physics team provides radiation protection advice, equipment testing, regulatory compliance checks and quality assurance checks relating to safety and data quality. The department also manages the DXA scanner, a service that is used to measure bone mineral density to diagnose and follow osteoporosis in patients at increased risk. The team also engage with other staff and departments in delivering physiological measurements.
