Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is the application of electrical impulses to help improve mobility and function for people with a wide range of neurological conditions affecting the brain and spinal cord, such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury and head injury. Though the clinical service and equipment sales now operate through an ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ owned company, Odstock Medical Ltd. (OML), our department is actively engaged in research projects to develop new techniques and open up this service to new patient groups.
OML is a limited company and owned by the ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ; it shares accommodation with our department and we have common interests, especially in research and development projects and in training. It was formed in 2006 as a spin-out company from this department’s work in the field of FES and continues to deliver FES and neurophysiotherapy clinical services, as well as being engaged in product development and research.
