If your baby was born without signs of life within the first 24 completed weeks of pregnancy the birth is not formally registered and for legal reasons this is called a miscarriage. You will be offered an acknowledgement of birth certificate by the staff.
If your baby is born without signs of life at 24 weeks gestation or after this is legally called a stillbirth and you are required to register this birth.
If your baby is born alive and then dies with in the first 28 days of birth this is legally called a Neonatal Death and you are required to register the birth and death.
You will be given further information on this depending on your individual circumstances by the Maternity and Neonatal staff.
