Why has my baby died?

Some families would like to know why their baby has died.Ìý When you are ready, staff will discuss options to have investigations carried out to try and find out why your baby died or why there were pregnancy complications.Ìý

These options may be:

  • Blood tests
  • Swabs
  • Post-mortem
  • Placental investigations

Ìý

In some cases, even though we have undertaken all the investigations, there may be no clear cause of death found.

Once the results of these investigations have been reported you will be offered a debrief appointment with your Consultant Obstetrician to see how you are, answer any questions about the events of the pregnancy and birth, discuss any results of investigations and make plans for future pregnancies. It may take 2-3 months for the results to be reported and the appointment to be made.

Our staff at Salisbury District Hospital have long been well regarded for the quality of care and treatment they provide for our patients and for their innovation, commitment and professionalism. This has been recognised in a wide range of achievements and it is reflected in our award of ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ Foundation Trust status. This is afforded to hospitals that provide the highest standards of care.
