Melissa Davies qualified at St Georges Hospital Medical School, London. She completed a five year training programme in urology and undertook a fellowship in urogyanecology and female urology in Leicester General Hospital. She was appointed to Salisbury ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ Foundation Trust in 2011 after completing her training in Guys & St Thomas’ Hospital, London.
Her interests include the management of female pelvic floor disorders, including prolapse and continence problems, and the urological management of patients who have neurological disability and spinal injuries.
The urology department at Salisbury ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ FT already provides a tertiary service for continence management, and her appointment complements existing sub-specialty interests. It will enable the urology department to provide an integrated and comprehensive female and neuro-urology service, including bladder reconstruction, prolapse management and failed previous continence surgery, including placement of artificial urinary sphincter.

Qualified in medicine at The University of Pretoria, South Africa (SA) in 1987. Became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons (SA) (Urology) in 1996 and Master of Medicine of South Africa (Urology) in 1998. Attained the equivalent of the certificate for completion of surgical training with full registration as a Consultant Urological Surgeon with the GMC in October 2003.
Previous Appointments: Specialist Urologist at Ga-Rankuwa Hospital (SA) 1997-2004. Private Practice Specialist Urologist at Carstenhof Clinic (SA) 1998-2004.
Current Appointment: Appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon at Salisbury ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ Foundation Trust in March 2004.
He is the Lead Urologist at Salisbury for laparoscopic prostatectomy and kidney stone removal. He also has special interest in urological ultrasound, paediatric urology (minor procedures) and male assisted fertility.

Mohammed was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 2010. He obtained his MBChB degree from Baghdad University Medical College in 1989, he then underwent Higher Surgical Specialist Training in Surgery and Urology at The American University of Beirut – Medical Centre graduating in 1996 (MD).
Subsequently he came to the UK and obtained MRCS, FRCS (Urol) and FEBU degrees.
Mohammed is interested in all aspects of General Urology, medical and surgical management of prostatic diseases, male sexual health and erectile dysfunction , Urinary tract stones and urological cancers (scrotum, prostate, bladder and kidney) and the use of minimally invasive techniques, he has a special interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.

James Brewin is a consultant urological surgeon at Salisbury ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ Foundation Trust (appointed in 2014). He graduated from The University of Nottingham Medical School in 2001 and undertook his five-year speciality training in London and South East England training at Guy’s and St Thomas’, Kings College Hospital, Epsom and Brighton. His training included a year with the Stone Unit at Guys Hospital.
He trained in general urology and specialises in the management of men with enlarged prostates (BPH/LUTS) and the treatment of kidney stones.
In 2014 Mr Brewin was the first surgeon in Wessex to establish laser prostate surgery (HoLEP) - this procedure is used to treat men with enlarged prostates. He has now performed over 300 HoLEP operations and is an approved mentor to teach this procedure to other surgeons. He also offers minimally invasive options for men with enlarged prostates including Urolift and Rezum.
Mr Brewin runs the specialist stone clinic at Salisbury District Hospital and offers a variety of treatments for urinary tract stones including lithotripsy (ESWL), flexible and rigid ureteroscopy and PNCL (keyhole surgery to remove large kidney stones).
Mr Brewin’s other interest is medical education. He teaches on a number of national training courses and has published research papers on simulation based training and non-technical skills for surgeons.
The Urology Nurse Specialist
The Urology Nurse Specialist augments the service that is provided by the medical and ward nursing staff. They relieve the pressure on the doctors in outpatients by providing nurse-led services. This not only decreases the waiting times for patients but also provides continuity of care and improved accessibility for patients and their families.

Kate completed her Advanced Diploma in Clinical Nursing at Bournemouth University in 2007. Since qualifiying Kate has worked at Salisbury ¿´Æ¬Èí¼þ Foundation Trust working on a surgical ward for 4 years and Intensive Care for 3 years.
Kate joined the Urology team in January 2013 as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Since joining the team she has been trained and assessed as competent in all aspects of the role including Urodynamics and Flexible Cystoscopy. She has completed her BSc (Hons) in Professional Practice in 2014.
